মা হতে চলেছেন, খবরটি শোনার পর একেবারেই অভিনয় থেকে সরে যান সুমাইয়া শিমু। মাঝখানে দু–একবার মন টানলেও ক্যামেরার সামনে দাঁড়ানো সম্ভব হয়নি। একবার একটি ওটিটি প্ল্যাটফর্ম থেকে একই কাজের জন্য কয়েকজনের কাছ থেকে ফোন পান। চরিত্র, পরিচালক, প্ল্যাটফর্ম—সবই পছন্দ হয়। কিন্তু মা হতে চলেছেন যে এ অবস্থায় কী করে অভিনয় করবেন! কারণটা না বলেই না করে দেন শিমু। মন খারাপ করেন পরিচালকেরা। পরে প্রযোজনা প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে আবার শিমুকে বলা হয়, তাঁকেই গল্পের জন্য দরকার। তখন এই অভিনেত্রী বুঝিয়ে বললেন। ‘মাতৃত্বকালীন সময়টা ছিল আমার জীবনের সেরা সময়। অভিনয় থেকে দূরে থাকলেও জীবনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অধ্যায় পুরোটাই উপভোগ করেছি,’ বলেন শিমু।
